The Space Between: Study of two architects

Dorte Mandrup Poulsen (Alive) and Karen Clemmensen's Building (Dead)

Introduction

Dorte Mandrup Poulsen: is a Danish architect that has inspired my works. Her rectangular and cubic buildings inspired a large amount of my textures. All of her works are thinking differently in each way even though they have similar traits attached to them. Alot of her buildings are light, thinking outside the box and unique.

Karen Clemmensen's: is another Danish architect that has also inspired a lot of my work in experiment 2. Her work to intertwine the landscape with the building is inspirational to finding a style that land must work with buildings. Her buildings are practical and sync with the surroundings.

The two interact with each other that they look to be exactly meant for each other but without any intention of combining the two. They perfectly join together with a smooth surface.

5 Pictures of Real Time Enviornment

The monument has being placed as if it was torn and broken between the environment. Steep mountains and placement of the structure indicates that the building has being split by tectonic plate movements. The environment is inspiration from Denmark's location surrounded mostly by water.

The light conflicts the monument as it outlines it being separate from the environment but being one with nature during the day. The darkness also contrast the difference between safety in light and risk of height.

The monument acts as a linkage between the two worn mountains. The shift of the monuments insist that there was a connection between the two parts of the island. Time has impacted on the structure and its environment due to wind and water making the island smoother

36 Textures

The textures below are inspired by the two architects (Dorte and Karen).

6 Parallel Perspective

We were asked to put both of the architecture inspired drawings from last week and merge them together creating a new one. These are parallel perspective drawings.
Sculptural + Variations of Space

Accuracy + Intimate

Variations of Space + One with Landscape

12 Axonometric Drawings

Dorte Mandrup Poulsen

Accuracy

Sculptural (Angular): Inspired by her cubic work, this drawing was how cubs can form spaces inside itself. The drawing is one large cube with 4 other boxes taking away space.

Variations of Space: Inspired by her different works (Especially the children), there can be different shapes and sizes. This drawing indicates that each block is different in a certain way, but join together to make one.

Karen Clemmensen

Intimate: Her buildings seem

One with Landscape: A lot of her work seemed to be inbuild or placed within an environment, blending elements surrounding with the building. The sharp wall seen on the second drawing highlights that this object looks like its being taken from a wall of a rockside.

Subtle: This work was inspired by her swimming pool building. The change in direction must be adapted to the likeness of water flow. The two cut blocks show how the object is still there but has molded to the subject.
